Airport Guide for Harare International Airport

Passenger Terminal

Harare International Airport is one of the Zimbabwe’s most used airport serving airlines from around the world connecting Zimbabwe to the global community. Harare International Airport is maintained by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe and is a hub of Air Zimbabwe. The airport is used to send and receive direct flights to and from United Kingdom along with many other European Nations. Harare International Airport is also equipped with the longest runway in Africa to allow for long takeoffs.

Harare International Airport is equipped with two passenger terminals both of which are used for national and international flights with an annual passenger capacity of 500,000 passengers. Both terminals are divided between arrival lounge and departure lounge. The terminal information is provided on the tickets and boarding passes so make sure you know which passenger terminal is used by your flight

Checking in

There are 18 checking in desks provided in the arrival area. After the landing of the aircraft passengers are taken to the arrival section of their respective terminal. At the entrance of the terminal the checking in desks are installed. International passengers need to access the international checking in desks, show their documentation and fulfill the procedure.

Arrival Lounges

There are both arrival lounges and VIP lounges equipped with restroom and showering facilities. Passengers can use free Wi-Fi connectivity in the arrival lounges, watch TV or read newspapers sitting in the comfortable air-conditioned area.

Customs and Clearance

Customs Department on both airport terminals is located on the ground floor after the duty free area. Passengers are required to have their luggage scanned and checked. Passengers are also required to have their documentation checked with the airport authorities.

Connectivity

Wireless internet connection is available in the arrival lounges. There are payphones installed on the terminal from where passengers can make worldwide calls. Mobile phone connections can be bought from the passenger terminals.

Food and Drinks

There are three restaurants and bars located on the passenger terminal. These facilities serve fast food and snacks along with eclectic menu. Except for the bar, smoking is not allowed inside the airport. There is one airport hotel where passengers can get there booking done on first come first serve basis and spend their transit time.

Banking and Currency Exchange Facilities

There are three banks located on the passenger terminals. Automated Teller Machines are installed on both terminals where passengers can operate their debit and credit cards.

Post Office

Post office is located outside the passenger terminals near the parking area. Passengers can post any documents from there.

Duty Free Area

Duty Free Area is located in the arrival lounges after the checking in desks. Passengers can buy a wide range of products from there on tax free and duty free rates. There are perfume shops, chemist shops, tobacconists and shops selling locally made and hand made products. You can buy all essentials from the duty free area.

Luggage and Baggage Collection

Luggage belts are installed towards the end of the terminal after the custom clearance area. Luggage trolleys are available free of cost.

Moving Out of the Airport

Passengers can move out of the airport after collecting their luggage. Taxis can be found in the parking area. Passengers can hire the taxis to drive them to their desired locations after negotiating the rent.
